Senior Clinical Pharmacist
Job Description
The job-holder is providing clinical pharmacy services for the majority of their normal working hours. They provide clinical pharmacy input on a day to day basis to a medical or surgical sub-specialty or an ICU. Their experience, skills and knowledge will make them a source of expertise in pharmacotherapy. The job-holder will consistently work to an advanced level, exceeding the performance expected of a clinical pharmacist [see HMC Pharmacist competence framework] in all their work
Educational Qualifications & Certificates:
Essential Education:
An advanced pharmacy degree (e.g. MSc or PharmD)
Required Certification/Licensure:
Valid Primary License from the country of origin (if applicable) AND should be eligible for a license from the Licensing authority in the State of Qatar to practice Healthcare Profession.
Essential Experience:
3 years of full time hospital pharmacy experience including at least one year as a clinical pharmacist
Preferred Experience:

Detailed Description
Report to Senior Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Supervisor
Key Interactions Patients and pharmacy, medical and nursing staff
Common Responsibilities
Keep up to date by participating in continuing educational opportunities
Understand and adhere to Qatar Medicine laws and regulations
Adhere to HMC policies and standard operating procedures and consult with the pharmacist if unusual circumstances prevent this
Specific Responsibilities
Works cooperatively and collaboratively with multi disciplinary colleagues to deliver high standards of care
Work with new technologies to automate and improve the safety of medicine distribution and ensure that medicines are dispensed to in-patients and out-patients in a safe and efficient manner
Check own work and that of others to ensure accuracy when dispensing in a wide range of settings (inpatients, outpatient, controlled drugs, extemporaneous preparation and IV preparation)
Prepare medications for inpatient and outpatient orders, the replenishment of floor stocks and refilling of automated drug cabinets. Monitor the storage and utilization of medicines in the stores, dispensary and on the wards to ensure efficient use
Aseptic assembly of medications for paranternal administration
Compounding of non-sterile formulations
Ensure that physician orders have been verified by a pharmacist before assembly and dispensing
Effectively use available reference materials to check medication orders when necessary
Support pharmacists by undertaking basic product research
Essential Education:
Diploma of recognized two (2) year Pharmacy Technician program
Note: A recognized Bachelor of Science program for those who have been hired/
appointed to this post prior to 1 May 2010.
Primary/ DHP License:
