Development Geologist

Location: Oman

Job Description

Accountabilities.
Development Geologist with experience in generating and executing field development plans, developing appraisal strategies, updating reservoir models, and conducting reservoir studies. The incumbent will supervise and conduct geological and geophysical subsurface-related activities including the building of subsurface geological models for QAMP oil and gas fields. Undertakes geological studies of the reservoirs to optimize field development plans. Reviews/interprets sub-surface data and proposes drillable infill and appraisal locations. Participates in well and reservoir management studies. The incumbent will mentor and coach less experienced Omani staff.
Job activities.

  • Builds new static reservoir modes and maintains reservoir models and incorporate relevant latest data of other disciplines in order to maximise HC recovery by delivering quality input to field development activities, appraisal plans and business plans.
  • Identifies opportunities for maximising HC recoveries by evaluating well results and contributing to well planning, formation evaluation and WRM plans / activities during all stages of the field life-cycle, from appraisal strategy planning through early and mature field (re)development, to field or segment scale and well and reservoir optimisation.
  • Identifies and proposes reservoir appraisal and re-development opportunities that are based on a range of subsurface realisations.
  • Carries reservoir geological characterization and modeling studies to high technical standards and incorporate relevant information of other disciplines.
  • Defines integrated (re)development opportunities and assess reserves potential.
  • Maintains evergreen static models of oil and gas reservoirs with latest formation evaluation, seismic and production data.
  • Responsible for STOIIP and GIIP volumetric calculations and provide geological input into reserves determinations compliant with the companies agreed HC resources classification system.
  • Identifies areas where the acquisition of additional reservoir (geology) data would reduce uncertainties; support or design / contribute to appropriate reservoir geology data acquisition programs.
  • Manage the geological data of the fields according to company standards.
  • Team member of a multi-disciplinary team. Participate in discipline activities in order to enhance sustainable geosciences capabilities.
  • Plans, supervises the acquisition of and analyzes/interprets geological, geophysical and petrophysical data for/from new appraisal, development and infill wells.
  • Experience in geo-steering/placement of horizontal and highly deviated wells in carbonate/clastic reservoirs.
  • Initiates, QC and co-ordinate in-house/out-sourced specialized geological and reservoir characterization studies.
  • Establishes workflows and participates in geophysical, geological and petrophysical study and operational peer reviews related to well and reservoir field management.
  • Plans, identifies and recommends new drilling locations and subsurface targets for producers/injectors/observers to optimize field development.
  • Prepares well proposals/prognosis for new wells and follow up on drilling operations and update the geological models based on well results.
  • Participates in Annual Reserves Review
  • Coordinates management of Mud Logging, well site geology LWD, Wireline and other contracts.
  • QA/QC geological data and maintain geological databases including real time data links.
  • Develops and prepares post-drill geological reports including compilation of formation logs.
  • Annual Budget Planning: Participate and contribute to annual budget process.
  • Provides coaching/mentoring to young Omani staff.

Skills Required

  • University degree in Geology, MSc and PhD preferred. Minimum 6 years’ experience in production geology, of which at least 5 should be in integrated field development planning and reservoir modeling (Petrel).
  • Capable of working independently.
  • Must have carbonate/clastic reservoir experience and worked on producing fields.
  • Prepares comprehensive documentation, presentations and workshops related to specific business plans, study work scopes or discipline content.
  • Technically strong geologist in reservoir characterization and reservoir modeling, with good all-round knowledge of other PE disciplines.
  • Good leadership & behaviour skills; experience working effectively in multidisciplinary teams; strong team player.
  • Effective communicator, ability to coach / mentor younger staff and ability to think beyond geoscience discipline
  • Experience in managing subsurface study/services contracts, new scope of work document preparation and the evaluation of submissions is desirable

Geophysicist

Location: Oman

Job Description

Accountabilities.
Interprets 2D and 3D seismic data incorporated with all wells data to achieve optimum resources evaluation. Plans, supervises, conducts and coordinates the collection, analysis and evaluation of geophysical data for field/well and reservoir studies in order to generate appropriate field development plans. The incumbent will provide geophysical support for QAMP oil fields. Conduct reservoir characterization and management studies and participate in interdisciplinary reservoir study teams. Mentors and coaches less experienced Omani staff.
Job activities.

  • Participates in design and planning of seismic acquisition and formulate and oversee seismic processing flow stream.
  • Conducts studies and masters geophysical techniques and methods to achieve industry standard- seismic interpretations with highest accuracy and reliability.
  • Performs well seismic calibration, time to depth conversion, and the geophysical database.
  • Progress and results are communicated to management/team/asset/on a regular basis and concluded with final reports and closeout.
  • Improve the quality of geophysical data provided to the asset teams for evaluation, in order to reduce risk with regard to well site selection and field appraisal/development (if any).
  • Conducts reservoir and field mapping for input into geological models.
  • Application of geophysical technology and interpretation practices for field exploitation, development, and opportunity appraisal.
  • Applies advanced interpretation techniques to provide improved reservoir characterization, leading to technical recommendations made to management.
  • Supports geologists and engineers in multi-disciplinary teams towards the formulation of development plans and well plans.
  • Plans and supervises the acquisition, analysis/interpretation of geophysical, geological and petrophysical data to determine presence, quality and type of hydrocarbons, fluid contacts, rock matrix constituents and properties from wells and seismic for updating geological models, well planning and for integrated reservoir/field development studies.
  • Responsible for detailed seismic interpretation and mapping of carbonate and clastic reservoir architecture and hydrocarbon distribution for input to 3D geological models. Include generation of concepts for reservoir environment of deposition and reservoir connectivity.
  • Conducts studies in seismic attribute analysis, AVO, seismic inversion, rock physics and seismic facies analysis.
  • Performs detailed geo-hazard analysis for well planning and contributes to well proposals and prognosis.
  • Builds velocity models and capable of carrying out different techniques in time-depth conversion.
  • Contributes to well planning for an upcoming development drilling program
  • Develops geophysical standards and workflows.
  • Reviews and evaluate the results of geophysical studies by third parties.
  • Reviews and participate in evaluating Stock Tank Oil Initially in Place (STOIIP) and updates geological models periodically as a result of ongoing drilling, production depletion and test data analysis. Incorporate findings into Annual Review of Reserves and updates review as necessary.
  • Manages the geophysical data of the fields according to company standards.
  • QA/QC geological data and maintain geophysical databases including real time data links.
  • Annual Budget Planning: Participate and contribute to annual budget process.
  • Provides coaching/mentoring to young Omani staff

Skills Required

  • 8-12+ years of experience in the Oil and Gas industry, with at least 10 years’ experience conducting geophysical studies/operations and a minimum of a BSc in Geophysics or Geology is required (MSc and PhD preferred).
  • Experience in seismic interpretation and fault mapping of carbonate and clastic reservoirs.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in 2D and 3D seismic interpretation, depth conversion, reservoir characterization with preferred middle east oil/gas experience.
  • Ability to operate geophysical industry software packages for seismic interpretation
  • Have good knowledge of economic aspects of a project.
  • Good knowledge of stratigraphy/structural geologic principles.
  • Experience with seismic and VSP acquisition and processing.
  • Must have experience/knowledge of Petrel and/or current computer software for geophysical applications.
  • Must have strong teamwork skills, and it would be an advantage to have experience working in a multicultural and environment.
  • Experience working in integrated asset team environment.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with peers, less experienced staff, field staff, contractors and management.
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills.
